Thinking About Running for Office in Cobb? Qualifying Starts Monday

Cobb County residents interested in running for local office will have their chance next week. Qualifying for the Nov. 4 municipal elections begins Monday, Aug. 19, and runs through Wednesday, Aug. 21. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, with a break from noon to 1 p.m.

Here’s what’s on the ballot across Cobb cities this year:

  • Marietta: Mayor, all seven City Council seats, and all seven School Board seats. Qualifying will be held at the Mableton Administrative Building at 1245 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite 20. Austell
  • Mableton: City Council Districts 2, 4, and 6. Qualifying will be held at the Mableton Administrative Building at 1245 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite 20.
  • Austell: Three City Council seats (one at-large, Wards 1 & 3). Qualifying will be held at the Austell Threadmill Complex conference room at 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Road, Suite 121.
  • Powder Springs: City Council Wards 1, 2, and 3. Qualifying will be held at the Ford Center Reception Hall at 4181 Atlanta Street.
  • Acworth: Mayor and two Board of Aldermen posts. Qualifying will be held at the Acworth City Hall board room at 4415 Center Street
  • Kennesaw: City Council Posts 3, 4, and 5 (all at-large). Qualifying will be held in the Kennesaw City Hall training room at 2529 J.O. Stephenson Avenue.
  • Smyrna: No municipal elections this year.

Qualifying fees vary by city and office, ranging from about $328 for school board in Marietta to $825 for mayor in Acworth.

  • Qualifying: Aug. 19–21
  • Election Day: Nov. 4 (polls open 7 a.m.–7 p.m.)
  • Early Voting: Details will be finalized by the Cobb Board of Elections on Monday.
