$1 Million Indian Creek Lodge Under Construction for GSU Community

The new structure in unincorporated Stone Mountain replaces a 100-year-old former house, part of the property originally purchased by Georgia State University in 1938.

Georgia State University, which has operated its Indian Creek Lodge at 900 Indian Creek Dr. in unincorporated Stone Mountain for seven decades, is building a new lodge on the grounds that will be used by those associated with the university, including students, faculty, alumni and their immediate family members (parents, spouses, siblings, dependent children).

The new lodge, which will not be open to the general public, could be completed in the mid-September timeframe, said Scott Levin, the university's director of recreational services.

The former lodge, previously a home before GSU purchased the property in 1938, has been razed and will be replaced by a $1 million facility that will be LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), according to a GSU magazine article.

The lodge had seen more and more activity and larger gathering space was needed, according to GSU.

"The original plan was to renovate the old lodge," Levin told Patch. But after looking into that option, it was clear that it would have been a huge and expensive undertaking.

"It would have cost more up to get it up to code than to knock it down," Levin said.
