2nd Suspect Sought In Deadly Gas Station Shooting In DeKalb

DeKalb Police say two people are accused of trying to rob a man at a gas station, leading to a shooting that killed one of the suspects.

LITHONIA, GA — Police are searching for a second suspect in connection with the attempted robbery and shooting of a man last month at a Covington Highway gas station.

DeKalb County Police accused 19-year-old Tristyn Mays of attempting to rob an unidentified man around 7:30 p.m., Nov. 17, at the gas station. Police said this led to a shootout between the duo.

The man then ran from the scene and was found with a gunshot wound in a Cove Lane neighborhood behind the gas station, police said.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to survive. Mays, however, died of his injuries, police said.

On Monday, police said the man shot Mays in self-defense. Police also said they are searching for a second suspect they say was involved in the robbery and who also shot at the man.

Police asked anyone with information on the case to share the anonymous tip through the free DeKalb County Police app, Tip411, or by texting "DKPD" to 847411 with the tip.
