Fire Kills GA College Football Player In Stone Mountain: Reports

A 21-year-old offensive lineman is killed during a fire at a metro Atlanta home, his family and fire officials told reporters.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — A college football player is dead after a fire burned at a Rock Cliff Court home around 1 p.m. Monday, according to media reports.

The fire claimed the life of Izaiah Taylor, a 21-year-old Georgia Military College offensive lineman, his family told WANF-TV. Taylor was a South Gwinnett High School graduate and also previously played football for Liberty University, the news outlet reported.

"Georgia Military College is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students, Izaiah Taylor," Georgia Military College said in a statement to WXIA-TV. "Our hearts are with Izaiah’s family, friends, classmates and all those who knew and loved him. The loss of a member of our GMC family is felt across our campus community, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time."

DeKalb County Fire Rescue told WXIA-TV that Taylor died at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
