Stone Mountain Village Georgia will dedicate its latest work of public art on Saturday, January 12th, 2013. Main Street Stone Mountain and Mayor Patricia Wheeler will conduct the brief ceremony at 5:30pm at the site of the new work, 875 Main Street between the Visitors Center Caboose and the City Municipal Building.
The new art work by artist John Thigpen is a double sided pictorial tribute to the historic Atlanta to Stone Mountain Electric Trolley, Interurban Street Car which ran between Atlanta and Stone Mountain from 1913 -1948. The piece is constructed from perforated and printed aluminum panels. It is approximately 15 feet wide and 6 feet tall. Granite from Stone Mountain forms the base. The photographic references on the work are of the old Trolley Barn in Stone Mountain Village, a renovated historic building currently in use as ART Station, a non-profit community arts center and theater. The work is situated on property donated by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association.
A reception will be held immediately after the dedication at ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain, GA.
