Brothers' Argument Leads to Stabbing

The men were fighting over unpaid rent, police say.

A man allegedly stabbed his brother during a fight over unpaid rent and then drove away, according to police.

A witness stated that on Oct. 1 at 8:50 p.m., Tony Banks, 48, was arguing with Eddie Banks, 42, on the phone in reference to missing payments. The police report continues: "Eddie came over (to an address on Sheila Lane in Stone Mountain) and an argument began outside. Eddie pulled out a knife and stabbed Tony. In the process, Eddie stabbed himself and then fled the scene."

Police said Tony Banks had a large gash in the middle of his chest and another wound on his left side. Another officer in the area spotted the fleeing suspect driving "a white Cadillac Brougham with rims, GA tag OVERWIT" on Flex Mill Road and arrested him. "Eddie advised he had a stab wound to his leg and was trying to get away from his brother Tony," the report stated.

Both men were transported to Grady Hospital.
