Homeowner Begins New Chapter Following Tragedy
Sharon Cabey lost a daughter and her husband within days. A neighborhood revitalization firm and U.S. stabilization program have helped her along to home ownership in Lithonia.
Sharon Cabey got the keys to her new home on Wednesday, and opened the door to a new chapter in her life following the death of a daughter, then a few days later, her husband, in separate car wrecks in 2007.
Cabey is a homeowner in the Piedmont Pointe subdivision in Lithonia through the efforts of APD Solutions, a national neighborhood revitalization firm, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Neighborhood Stabilization Program, or NSP.

APDS says it is acquiring, developing and selling properties in Piedmont Pointe, which was an abandoned subdivision. The company has finished building six new homes meeting the requirements for the NSP model. More homes are planned over the next year or so.
On Wednesday, APDS chief executive officer Vaughn Irons, DeKalb county commissioners Lee May and Stan Watson, along with State Rep. Dar'shun Kendrick and others were present as Cabey ceremoniously opened the door to her new home.

Cabey is the first to purchase one of the new homes built by APDS in Piedmont Pointe, the company said.
