Keeping Shopping Carts Where they Belong; Considering Food Trucks; Stars and Strikes Appreciates Teachers

A look at business news in Stone Mountain and Lihtonia.

Please don't take the shopping carts

The SuperSave Foods grocery store on Rockbridge Road and N. Indian Creek has a sign up near its parking lot stating not to take the shopping carts off the premises. Apparently this can be a big and expensive big problem for retailers -- and shoppers, too. According to an article on Shoppingcarts.org, about the issue, "money lost in shopping cart theft is ultimately covered by the consumer."

It's no wonder retailers want them to stay put. During one of Walmart's meetings with community members in 2011 regarding its new store near N. Hairston, a representative said shopping carts cost about $800 apiece.

Looking into food trucks

Stone Mountain city has looked into bringing food trucks to town, but it's not as simple as just having them roll on in. Main Street Stone Mountain and Downtown Development Authority executive director Susan Ryles, speaking at the city council work session on Monday, said she's learned that these vendors work differently than others - they charge to come out to a location.
