Man Fatally Shot Inside Apartment Is Lithonia's First Homicide This Year

Shooting victim was moving out of Lithonia apartment in the 2200 block of Parc Chateau Drive, police say.

LITHONIA, GA -- A suspect in a fatal shooting is in custody early Monday in DeKalb County in Lithonia's first homicide of the year. The shooting occurred during a robbery in which the victim was moving out of an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Parc Chateau Drive, according to news reports.

A 27-year-old man was fatally wounded in an apartment just before midnight Sunday, while his child, roommate and girlfriend -- all of whom were in the apartment as well -- were not injured, local media reported.

A search for the shooter extended throughout the night and into the morning as police blocked a road leading to Lithonia Middle School for a period of time, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The suspect barricaded inside a home but authorities were able to resolve the situation peacefully. Police have not released the names of the victim or suspect, WAGA-TV reports.

The gunman was captured just before 8 a.m., allowing students to continue into the school.
