Man Tries to Pass Off $5 Bill As $100 at Big Lots

The suspect fled the store on Stone Mountain Highway in the Jan. 20 incident, according to the police report.

A man tried to pay for merchandise at Big Lots on Stone Mountain Highway with a $100 bill that a store manager suspected was a "washed out" $5 bill, she told Gwinnett county police.

The incident happened at the store in unincorporated Stone Mountain in Gwinnett county, 5370 Stone Mountain Highway, on Jan. 20. The manager told police that the suspect had been in and out of the store over the previous two days.

When he attempted to purchase goods with the "$100" bill on Jan. 20 around 1:40 p.m., the manager inspected the currency, and had her suspicions that it was a $5 bill in disguise.

According to the incident report, the manager had the suspect stand at the register while she went to the back, but she found out upon her return that he had fled the scene.

The report states that the bill was confiscated and logged into an overnight evidence locker.
