Police Arrest Man After SWAT Standoff In Lithonia

The man was an inmate from DeKalb County Jail who had been mistakenly released.

 

DeKalb County Police arrested a man after a brief standoff at a Lithonia house late Friday afternoon.

According to 11Alive.com, Joel Ledarius Harper was an inmate from DeKalb County Jail who was mistakenly released.

According to DeKalb County, Harper had barricaded himself inside a Cedar Rock Drive home with a toddler. But after a standoff with police, he was taken into custody shortly after 9 p.m. on Friday.

Earlier Friday, ajc.com reported that DeKalb Sheriff Thomas Brown issued a statement that Harper should be considered "desperate and dangerous."

Harper, 22, had been convicted of two armed robbery accounts and one count of aggravated assault in August. He was given a 10-year sentence but was released from jail on Nov. 21 due to an administrative error, according to a DeKalb County Jail spokesman.
