Shooting Leaves Man Dead, Woman Wounded At Burger King: Police

BREAKING: One dead, one wounded in shooting inside Burger King on Memorial Drive in Decatur.

DECATUR, GA -- One person is dead and another wounded in a shooting at a Burger King in Decatur, Patch has learned.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. at the eatery in the 4600 block of Memorial Drive, according to news reports. Gunfire erupted during an altercation involving three customers -- a woman and two men -- inside the establishment. A man pulled out a gun and shot the other man, killing him. While the victim has not been identified, local media reported that he is 37 years old. The woman was wounded as well and taken to a local hospital. Footage taken from a TV news helicopter showed a body covered under a sheet on a stretcher.

Witnesses said that the victim tried to take off running after he was shot but collapsed just outside the eatery. Law enforcement officials on the scene said that all three people involved knew each other.

"It's scary to know something like this could happen at a place people go to eat," Brosly Gonzalez told WAGA-TV. "It's scary that it happened here," Gonzalez said. "We have kids and families. You just hear about this so often, daily almost. It's concerning."

The gunman has reportedly been taken into custody and is being processed. Images on social media showed the restaurant cordoned off with yellow police tape. It is unclear when the eatery will reopen.
