Thurmond to Recommend Fleet Building Be Renamed After Bus Mechanic

Gregory K. Davis died after collapsing at a June 3 school board budget meeting.

Interim DeKalb schools superindent Michael Thurmond will recommend to the board that the Fleet Building on its campus be named after a county bus mechanic who was laid to rest this week.

The district announced Wednesday that Thurmond will make a recommendation at the July 1 school board meeting that the building be renamed the "Gregory K. Davis Fleet Service Center."

Davis, of Stone Mountain, passed away after collapsing at a recent school board budget meeting. He was described by those who knew him as dedicated to education, according to an AJC obituary. Davis, 51, was a member of the Organization of DeKalb Educators.
