AAI SkillsUSA Students Spread Valentines Cheer At a Local Senior Home

AAI's SkillUSAs chapter volunteers at local senior home, celebrating Valentines day with senior residents.

On Sunday, February 12th, members from the Alliance Academy for Innovation SkillsUSA chapter helped volunteer at the Celebration Village Senior Home to bring some Valentine’s Day cheer. The opportunity was organized by Jackson Moskowitz, Sanjita Prabhu, and Bhavya Siva, members of the chapter’s Leadership Team and American Spirit Competition.

At the event, members helped residents of the home make Valentine-themed arts and crafts. Some of these included heart ornaments, which several residents made for their children and grandchildren. Members of the SkillsUSA chapter helped these residents with their ornaments and assisted them with things that they needed.

While some residents made arts and crafts, others played rounds of Uno with Bhavya and Jackson. Since some of these residents were hard of hearing or visually impaired, the two quickly adapted and began announcing the number and colors of the cards so everyone was able to participate.

After the students were done volunteering, they passed out Valentine’s Day care packages for the residents to enjoy. Moskowitz, Prabhu, and Siva assembled 75 of these packages so all of the residents were able to have one. These contained handwritten cards made by the members, pieces of candy, lip balm, hand lotions, and other miscellaneous items that were requested by the senior home. The items in the care packages were donated by the chapter members through a Local Drive. The chapter also donated handmade blankets that were made by the members.

“It felt really good to be able to give back like this,” said Sanjita Prabhu. “Everyone has a blast and we were able to learn a lot about their stories. I’m forever grateful for this opportunity.” The chapter looks forward to returning in the future and continuing to give back to its community.
