The Weekender: Urban Hoedown and Worldwide Day of Play

Here are some upcoming events for the whole family in and around Cobb County, and if we missed yours, tell us about it in the comments.

Friday

Urban Hoedown 
What: This two-day festival, “Gown and Dirty,” to be held Friday, September 28 from 7 to 11 p.m. and Saturday, September 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will offer an array of entertainment that’s fun for all age groups, from live music, hay rides and obstacles, arts and crafts vendors and a football tailgating station to the only corn maze inside the Atlanta city limits. Local food trucks, barbecue vendors and local breweries will be coming out to supply food and beverages all day and night. The “Urban Hoedown” kicks off a night program which will include live music, a “Hairy Man” contest where men will be awarded for best facial hair, a bonfire and lots of star gazing.

Saturday
City of Kennesaw’s Worldwide Day of Play 
What: Kennesaw officials are encouraging area families to get off the couch and over to Swift-Cantrell Park to participate in the city's first-ever "Worldwide Day of Play" event. Activities include an obstacle course, playground games, a rock climbing wall, relay challenges, sports, a bounce house, volleyball and more. Refreshments will be provided (while supplies last).

Business Expo 
What: An expo showcasing businesses in the Gary Hill Business Network.
Where: 200 Village Green Cir SE, Smyrna
When: 10 a.m.

Atlanta Yoga Mala for Peace 
What: Communities all over the globe will be coming together for the Global Yoga Mala Peace event. Featuring:

  • Instructor led yoga practice (108 Sun Salutations)
  • Live Kirtan devotional chant music by Bhakti Messenger
  • Healthy Lifestyle Festival
  • Nourishing Food and Fellowship

Where: Unity North Atlanta Church, 4255 Sandy Plains Rd, Marietta
When: 1 p.m.
Cost: $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Buy tickets.

Mableton Rocks 
What: Beatles Tribute Artist, JB Walker, Stevie Nicks Tribute Bands - and YOLK, Reid Bros Band, Bubba Dew, White WInged Dove, The Buggs, Band Benefield

When: 3 p.m.
Cost: $20 donation
