  1. Cherokee County officials have posted a reminder that the deadline to file an appeal for your property assessment is June 29. The free process can be done online on the tax assessors office website here, just click on "file appeal." You'll be able to view your property's current information, compare other properties in the area or appeal the property assessment completed for your property. The system will take you through the process, though anyone with a question about the appeals process can call 678-493-6120. (Cherokee County via Facebook)
  2. If you're looking for a part-time, full-time or seasonal job, there's a job fair today at The Outlet Shoppes. There are more than 500 positions to be filled, and if you're chosen for one of them, you'll get a $50 gift card. As a bonus, if you apply to a job during the job fair, you'll be entered to win a $500 mall gift card. Retailers will have tables in front of their shops with applications ready for you.   3. The next "Hear, Here" talk at History Cherokee will be held on June 13. These events tend to fill up quickly, so be sure to sign up soon if you'd like to attend. The event, "Hear, Here: The Preservation of Native American History and Heritage with Leslie Thomas," is free. Leslie Thomas has been a member of the Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association for over 20 years and has served as the communications director, vice president and current president of the organization. A wealth of experience and knowledge, Thomas is also the current president of the Gilmer County Historical Society. You can sign up for the lecture at the link. (History Cherokee)
  4. The Board of Commissioners made some moves in their June 6 meeting, including the forward progression of package store regulations in unincorporated Cherokee County. It was decided that the Development Service Center will be accepting applications from Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. to Oct. 31 at 5 p.m., with an ordinance in place requiring package stores to be, at minimum, 5,000 square feet and freestanding. Among other regulations, package stores must be at least 600 feet from a school or residence and 300 feet from any church, there must be at least 1 mile between liquor stores and only 1 license will be granted in each district. A fee structure will be decided later this month. (Cherokee County Communications Division)
  5. It's looking like a good weekend for some outside activity, if you're looking for something to do with the family and kids, give TrailStory a shot. Woodstock Parks and Recreation and the Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) created the project for school-aged children, lining local trails with pages from books along with questions about the book via QR code. This month on the Towne Lake Pass Trail, it's "Daniel's Good Day," by Micha Archer, and in August on the Rubes Creek Trail, the book will be "My Papi Has a Motorcycle," by Isabel Quintero.     • Riders from the Northside Parking Deck will be dropped off/picked up on East Main Street near Homer's Crossing.
    • Riders from the Woodstock City Church lot will be dropped off/picked up on Main Street in front of Rootstock.
    • Riders from Little River Elementary will be dropped off/picked up behind the stage near the Hubbard Road intersection.
  • It takes time, honest effort and unconditional love to be a great father. And here at Patch, we celebrate greatness.
