Here are the top stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- A plaque was unveiled this week, honoring the 2020 dedication of Cherokee County Fire Station 7 to retired Fire Chief Raymond Gunnin. The retired fire chief began his service to this county in 1977 as a volunteer firefighter, became a fire chief in 2005 and retired in 2011. At that point, Gunnin ran for and earned a District 2 seat with the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners, where he remained for two terms. Board and CCFES members, current and retired, spoke of his achievements and successes at the unveiling ceremony, where family, friends and colleagues continued the celebration with a station and fire apparatus tour. (CCFES News)
- For those on the Holly Springs side of town, the Holly Springs Police Department is asking for help in finding a white Dodge pickup. It is suspected that the truck was used in two home burglaries on June 6, the New Mexico tag is ALNY59. At the time of the incidents, there may have been two or three males and one female inside the vehicle. If you have any information, please contact Detective E. Holloway at 770-721-7536. (Holly Springs PD via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter would like to remind us that there are alternatives to surrendering a pet at the shelter. If you're having a hard time with the cost, convenience or training needed for your pet, the shelter has resources like a pet food pantry, training and moving information and affordable medical care. If rehoming is necessary, the Adopt a Pet "Rehome" service offers guided services and allows you to create a pet profile, review applications, safely meet potential adopters and complete the rehoming process in less stressful way for all involved.
