ENV Responded To Sanitary Sewer Overflow In Kalihi Last Night

HONOLULU – The Department of Environmental Services (ENV) responded last night to a sanitary sewer overflow in Kalihi.

A broken pipe caused untreated wastewater to discharge out a manhole at 1612 Houghtailing St. ENV received a call at 4:39 p.m. and arrived at the site at 4:50 p.m. The spill was on-going when last reported.
More than 6,200 total gallons spilled, of which approximately 1,000 gallons entered a nearby storm drain and 75 gallons were recovered.

ENV notified the state Department of Health. ENV will post warning signs and take water samples today.
