• Desalination plant on Oahu nearing construction after three decades of work (staradvertiser.com) — Honolulu’s Board of Water Supply is finally nearing construction of a long-planned desalination plant in Kalaeloa, aimed at restoring capacity lost when Red Hill contamination shut down the Halawa Shaft serving urban Honolulu. The $149 million project could start building as early as spring 2026, with federal funding support and a future role in easing growth-driven water demand from Ewa to town.

• Disabled Navy veteran, retired NYPD finishes 50th marathon in all 50 states (khon2.com) — A disabled Navy veteran and retired New York transit police detective capped his 50-state marathon quest by finishing the Honolulu Marathon in just under four hours. He chose Hawaii as his final state, calling it the most beautiful, and now uses his running to support fellow veterans and first responders coping with PTSD through the nonprofit Paws of War.
