DALLAS — If you need a little extra spending cash, you may want to dig through those old video games in the closet or stored in the garage.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas sold an unopened copy of Nintendo’s Super Mario 64 for a new record amount of $1.56 million on Sunday, July 11. The amount broke a record for a single copy video game set just days before.

On Friday, July 9, a copy of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda sold for $870,000. Like Super Mario, Zelda was also unopened.

The same auction house sold an unopened copy of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. that was bought in 1986 and forgotten about in a desk drawer for $660,000 in April.
