📰 News we're reading

1. Recycling do's and don'ts for the holiday season in Boise (kivitv.com) — Boise residents are being reminded which holiday packaging can actually go in curbside recycling and which should head to the trash instead. The city’s Curb It team explains how to avoid “wish-cycling,” use Hefty ReNew bags for tricky plastics, and even schedule free large-item pickups for bulky Christmas gifts, helping Boise households cut waste from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.

2. Boise police are providing increased security for the mayor. What we know (idahostatesman.com) — Boise Police are temporarily increasing security for Mayor Lauren McLean, though officials haven’t detailed why and say she didn’t request the protection. The move follows a local bar owner’s bounty for incriminating information about her, echoing past periods when McLean required extra security after threats and protests at her Boise home.

3. ACHD begins updating speed limit signs in Boise's North End (ktvb.com) — Drivers in Boise’s North End will soon see speed limits drop to 20 mph on several key neighborhood streets as ACHD rolls out a new slow-zone pilot after a child was killed at Ada and Harrison. Crews plan to update signs before students return from break and add crossing flags and stricter parking enforcement while the city and ACHD study whether the changes improve safety.

4. How moving day is helping feed Idaho families (ktvb.com) — Boise movers are teaming up with the nonprofit Move for Hunger to collect non-perishable food from residents on moving day and deliver it to local churches and food banks. With Idaho facing high food insecurity and SNAP cuts, this effort has already donated more than 88,000 pounds of food statewide, feeding over 70,000 people and giving local moving companies a hands-on way to support their community.
