Murgoitio protest + Safe Ponds + Nation Leading Rents

The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing today in town.

Good morning, Boise! Let's get you all caught up to start this Wednesday off on an informed note. Here's everything worth knowing today in Boise.

The Boise Daily provides you with all the news you need. As an example, take a look at these stories we have for today. Even after the City of Boise called off one land swap, neighbors around the Murgoitio proposed park have taken to protesting, arguing the land donated to the city years ago can only be used for a park. The man shot and killed by police in Boise has been identified and a photo of the gun found on the man has been released. A Garden City council member has decided his name will not appear on the ballot, and two Boise parks are open once again for swimming. Finally, Boise leads the nation in rental increases — not great news for many.

First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 100, low: 71.

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. The fight over the use of Murgoitio continues as protestors gathered outside Boise City Hall to defend the use of the 160 acres to be used solely as a park. Katija Stjepovic with KTVB-TV was present during the protest and has the story. (KTVB.com)
  2. The man shot by Boise Police after producing a semi-automatic BB gun and pointing the weapon at the officers has been identified. The investigation into the deadly incident continues. (Boise Patch)
  3. Garden City Council Member Jeff Souza has decided not to seek reelection in the upcoming election. Souza spoke with Boisedev's Margaret Carmel regarding his decision and what is next in his life. (boisedev.com)
  4. Grab your suits and towels. It is once again safe to swim in Esther Simplot Park and Bernardine Quinn Riverside Park after E.coli levels have reached an acceptable level as reported by staff with KTVB-TV. (KTVB.com)
  5. Leading the nation is typically a good thing. However, leading the nation in rent increases is not the best of news. KBCI-TV2 staff have the story of Boise rents growing by 33 percent in the last year, the largest increase of rates in the U.S. (Idaho News)
