Idaho first half of property tax payments due Saturday (idahocapitalsun.com) — Boise homeowners face a key deadline as Ada and Canyon counties require at least half of 2025 property taxes paid by Dec. 22, with late fees and interest starting afterward. You can pay in person at the Ada County Courthouse in downtown Boise, by mail to a Boise P.O. box, online, or through your mortgage escrow if set up. Unsure of your setup? Officials urge contacting your treasurer or lender now.
   

2. Built over 160 years ago, Boise's first family home still stands today (boisedev.com) — Boise’s oldest surviving family home, the John O’Farrell cabin near today’s VA Medical Center, still stands as a preserved landmark after a major restoration completed in 2002. Built in 1863 and later moved and saved by community efforts, it’s now managed by Boise Parks and Recreation and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
   

3. Treasure Valley boosts DUI patrols Dec. 31-Jan. 3; offers Lyft vouchers to deter impaired driving (ktvb.com) — Expect extra DUI patrols across the Treasure Valley from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3, with Boise drivers among those most affected. Officers will focus on impaired driving and hand out $10 Lyft vouchers during stops, plus participating businesses will display QR codes for discounted rides. The goal is to cut serious crashes while still helping people get home safely.
   

4. Motorcyclist killed in Meridian crash Identified (idahonews.com) — A 20-year-old Meridian motorcyclist died after being taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise following a Friday crash. The collision happened at N. Linder Road and W. Cayuse Creek Drive, and Meridian Police are still investigating. For Boise-area drivers, it’s a sobering reminder to use extra caution at busy suburban intersections.
   

5. Albino ball python found in Boise Hyatt hotel room sparks animal rescue effort (kivitv.com) — A traveler checking into a Hyatt hotel in Southeast Boise found an albino ball python waiting in their room, prompting an animal rescue call. The snake is now safely housed at the Idaho Humane Society’s Dorman Street campus in Boise, where staff hope the owner will reclaim it before they consider adoption requests.
