Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Friday marked the end of the week and day 10 in the Lori Vallow Daybell trial in Boise. EastIdahoNews reporter Nate Eaton again posted updates throughout the day from the trial. Early in the morning, the prosecution provided a text message from Vallow Daybell's husband, Charles Vallow, stating he knew of the affair between Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell and stating he was taking their son to Texas. He further stated he was contacting Daybell's then wife, Tammy. Ten days later, Charles Vallow was shot and killed. When Vallow Daybell discovers she is not the beneficiary to Vallow's insurance, she calls it "a spear thru my heart." According to a late morning witness, Vallow Daybell told others to move to Rexburg as other countries were going to invade the United States, but Rexburg would be spared. Vallow Daybell also told the witness her son's service dog was being used by evil spirits. The trial will not meet Monday, April 17 but will resume Tuesday, April 18. (eastidahonews)
- If you are one of the lucky runners with an entry into the toughest half marathon in the northwest, KIVI-TV's Steve Dent provides conditions for the upcoming 45th Race to Robie Creek. Runners are warned to watch for snow and ice on the downhill side and returning this year is bands at the start and finish of the race. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
- An Ada Country Sheriff's Deputy remains hospitalized after an incident on Interstate 84. CBS2 news staff report the deputy has undergone numerous surgeries on his injuries. The deputy responded to a call of a suspect walking in traffic. When the deputy attempted to grab the suspect, the man turned and stabbed the deputy multiple times. (Idaho News)
- Our windy, cold spring conditions cannot last forever. When the sun does make an appearance, KIDO-AM's Nikki West offers suggestions on five activities to do with kids around Boise. Included is a trip to Table Rock, a visit to Zoo Boise and a walk along the Greenbelt. (KIDO Talk Radio)
- This year, the deadline for filing your taxes is Tuesday, April 18. The IdahoCapitalSun's Mia Maldonado reports at least two organizations are offering help for Idahoans who may need to file their taxes last minute and those who need an extension or have tax-law questions. And if you wait until the last minute, the Idaho State Tax Commission announced Wednesday that it will offer curbside tax filing for last-minute people in the Boise area. (Idaho Capital Sun)
