3 Inches Of Snow Possible Overnight For Illinois

The first winter storm of the season could drop up to 3 inches of snow, bringing "slick and hazardous" road conditions to the Chicago area.

ILLINOIS — With Thanksgiving behind us and many people prepping for the Christmas season, winter weather has also arrived — bringing up to three inches of snow accumulation to parts of northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, effective until 2 p.m. Sunday, for counties including DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle and McHenry.

Areas under the winter weather advisory could get 2-3 inches of snow, while the Joliet and Chicago areas could get 1-2 inches.

Snow is expected to start between 1 and 4 a.m. for areas northwest of I-55 and between 4 and 8 a.m. for areas southeast of I-55, continuing into Sunday. Snowfall rates of up to half an inch per hour are possible between 5 and 10 a.m.

"Slick and hazardous travel conditions" are expected Sunday, and drivers should plan on increased travel times on Sunday, according to the NWS.

Unseasonably cold conditions are expected to continue into early next week, with morning wind chills of 5 to 15 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.
