55 Illinois Companies Named Among America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023

ILLINOIS — Fifty-five companies headquartered in Illinois were recently named to the America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023 rankings released by Newsweek and its data partner, Plant-A Insights Group.

Newsweek used a 5-star rating system to rank companies. The rating is based on a national survey on benefits, workplace environment, career development, empowerment of women, promotion of veterans, development of entry-level employees, and support for LGBTQ+ employees.

Companies headquartered in Illinois that made the ranking are:

1888 Mills, Financial and business services, which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 people and has revenues of between $1 billion and $5 billion, received a 5-star ranking. The company was founded in 2002.

Abbott, Healthcare, which employs between 100,000 to 499,000 people and has revenues of more than $10 billion, received a 4 ½ star ranking. The company was founded in 1888.

Ace Hardware, Home and electronics retailer, which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 people and has revenues of between $5 billion to 10 billion, received a 4-star ranking. The company was founded in 1924.

Adventist Health Services, a healthcare provider, which employs between 20,000 and 99,999 people and has revenues of between $1 billion to 5 billion, received a 4-star ranking.

Advocate Aurora Health, a healthcare provider, which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 people and has revenues between of more than $10 billion, received a 4-star ranking. The company was founded in 2018.

Aldridge Group, Commercial and Industrial engineering, which employs between 1,000 and 4,999 people and has revenues of between $500 million and 1 billion, received a 5-star ranking. The company was founded in 1952.

To develop the ranking, Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group surveyed companies employing at least 1,000 people about their employment experience and also consulted more than 389,000 company reviews.

The companies that made the final ranking share common values such as competitive salaries and benefits, equity and diversity, and a workplace culture that is open to new ideas, Newsweek said. Additionally, the companies provide comfortable working environments while encouraging career development and work-life balance.

Companies that create “great workplaces” benefit from increased productivity and lower turnover rates that contribute to stability while employees benefit from better physical and mental health, the magazine said. Those employees tend to take fewer sick days, are less likely to experience burnout, and provide excellent service to their customers and colleagues.
