Comfortable Temperatures, Chance of Weekend Rain, Storms: IL Weather

The toasty temps that spent the week in Illinois are expected to depart as cooler air and chances of rain on Saturday and Sunday move in.

CHICAGO — Following a week that felt more like summer than spring thanks to temperatures that reached 90 degrees and humidity that made things feel a bit uncomfortable, cooler air is moving back in.

And with the cooler air comes more chances of rain for the weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts that residents have the chance for a soggy start to the weekend starting Friday night when rain, and possibly some severe thunderstorms, could move into some parts of the greater Chicago area.

Forecasters are predicting that some areas could see potentially damaging storms in areas west of Boone, DeKalb, and LaSalle counties. Those storms could pop up Friday evening and will weaken as the evening goes on before more widespread rain could move into the area in the overnight hours, forecasters said.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain on Saturday when temperatures are only expected to climb into the low-80s under partly cloudy conditions. There is another 20 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms early Sunday morning with temperatures leveling out around 60 degrees for the overnight hours.

Sunday brings another slight chance of rain, but not until after 4 p.m., forecasters said. Skies will turn partly sunny during the day and temperatures are again expected to reach near 70 before more mild air is expected to hang around for much of the upcoming week.
