When Will Severe Weather Threat Returns To Chicago Area?

The weather service said a strong cold front will bring storms to the area.

ILLINOIS — A few showers are possible Friday before a dry, "sunny and seasonable weekend," according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said there will be showers at times, but drying out by late day. There could be isolated thunderstorms at times as well, but severe weather is not likely.

Temperatures on Friday will vary from north to south, with the coolest temps near the lake. The highs will be between 58 and 69 for those north of Interstate 80, and between 70 and 77 for those south of I-80.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a 15 percent chance of severe weather for most of northern Illinois, including the Chicago area.

The weather service said a strong cold front will bring storms to the area on Monday night. Some of those storms could be strong to severe, and the severe threat will linger into Tuesday for places along and east of Interstate 55.
