Warmup Coming After Snow, Plunging Temperatures In Chicago Area

Friday will be the warmest day of the week.

After a wintry start to the work week, the rest of the week should be dry for the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

The winter storm system on Sunday into Monday hit northwest Indiana the hardest; dropping 12.3 inches of snow in Cedar Lake. Momence, in Illinois, received 12 inches of snow.

Closer to Chicago, snow totals weren't as high. O'Hare got 1.7 inches of snow, and Midway received 2.5 inches of snow, according to weather service data.

Now, this week, "dry conditions are expected through the rest of the week," the weather service said. Temperatures will also warm up quite a bit by Friday.

The high for Tuesday is 45, and temps start to moderate on Wednesday, which has a high of 53, and Thursday, which has a high of 58 degrees. Friday will be the warmest day of the week, with 65 degrees as the high, according to the current forecast.

TUESDAY: A 20 percent chance of snow before 9 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny, with a high near 49. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. West southwest wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38.

FRIDAY: Sunny, with a high near 58.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46.
