The fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old Walmart employee in Illinois may have been racially motivated, according to media reports, which said the assailant sought mental health care before the attack. A 28-year-old man uttered a racial before fatally stabbing teenager Jason Jenkins, according to reports.
1st Measles Case Reported In Suburb
Two suburban counties are now also reporting confirmed measles cases, while the case count in Chicago stood at 41 as of Thursday morning. In 2023, 5 total measles cases were reported in Illinois, and there were no cases between 2020 and 2022.

Parole Board Chair And Board Member Resign Amid Controversy Over Release Of Man Accused Of Killing Boy, Stabbing His Mom
Illinois Prisoner Review Board chair Donald Shelton and board member LeAnn Miller resigned this week after the board approved the parole of a man who is accused of stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and killing her 11-year-old son a day after he was released from prison. Last month, the mother pleaded in court trying to get a protective order against the inmate before his release.

'Stick Of Dynamite' Defendant Fit For Trial In Nursing Home Death
Police said the 71-year-old fatally beat a 61-year-old man in the nursing home laundry room before telling detectives "he has a temper ... like a stick of dynamite," according to court filings.
Crying Child Alerts Police To Unconscious Parents: Police
Police responded to the Best Western for a welfare check after staff reported overhearing a crying child. Officers were able to rouse the mother and father and found drugs in the room, police said. The 5-year-old was placed into the care of the Department of Child and Family Services to be eventually placed with a different family members.
