Storms Possible As Heat Returns To Chicago Area

Storms on Friday night and Saturday could lead to heavy rain and localized flooding.

ILLINOIS — A warm weekend is ahead as temperatures soar back into the 90s for the weekend and into the start of the work week, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service.

A high of 87 is expected on Friday, 90 on Saturday, 93 on Sunday and 92 on Monday.

Conditions should be mostly dry, however, "the potential for showers and storms is increasing late [Friday night] through Saturday across part of the area," the weather service said.

Any storms that develop late Friday into Saturday morning could cause heavy rain, which could lead to localized flooding, the weather service said.

Storms are also possible on Saturday and Saturday night, mainly east of a Rockford to Rensselaer line, according to the weather service. Storms may be capable of locally heavy rainfall and flooding.

FRIDAY: Patchy fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. East wind around 5 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.

SATURDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. South southeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

SUNDAY: Sunny, with a high near 85. South southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.
