Illinois Has 84 Senior Living Communities On U.S. News ‘Best’ List

ILLINOIS — U.S. News and World Report said in new Best Senior Living ratings released Thursday that 84 retirement communities in Illinois are worth consideration for older Americans as they plan for increasing medical needs.

The report, now in its second year, evaluates nearly 4,000 U.S. communities in one or more of the following categories: independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing care retirement.

The communities that made the cut in at least one of the categories “excel in making residents feel safe, well cared for and highly satisfied by the services provided,” Zach Adams, senior health data engineer at U.S. News, said in a news release.

In Illinois, U.S. News evaluated 189 senior living communities and recognized 84 of them, including these in the greater Chicago area:

• Arbor Terrance, Naperville
• Belmont Village, Buffalo Grove
• Belmont Village, Glenview
• Bickford of Crystal Lake
• Bickford of Oswego
• Brighton Gardens, St. Charles
• Brighton Gardens, Wheaton
• Brookdale, Glen Ellyn
• Brookdale, Hoffman Estates
• Brookdale Lake View, Chicago
• Brookdale, Orland Park
• Burr Ridge Senior Living
• Carriage Oaks, St. Charles
• Cedar Lake Assisted Living and Memory Care, Lake Zurich
• Heritage Woods of Huntley and White Oaks, Huntley
• Heritage Woods of McHenry
• Homestead of Morton Grove
• Lombard Place Assisted Living and Memory Care

U.S. News offers a community finder tool that includes detailed profiles on each of the facilities that participated in the 2022 survey.

To be included, retirement communities had to participate in a six-month consumer-satisfaction survey and had to meet certain U.S. News eligibility criteria. The 4,000 that met the criteria represent only a fraction of the tens of thousands of such licensed senior living communities and facilities nationwide.

The ratings show 17 senior living companies with more than 20 participating retirement communities received awards for more than half of them.
