Illinois Spirit Halloween Stores Make Early Costume Push In August

ILLINOIS — Although summer has entered its dog days phase now that August has arrived, some Halloween stores across Illinois are preparing to open. Just ask the Spirit Halloween chain.

Spirit Halloween will be opening 40 Illinois locations this year, with store openings either in August or "coming soon," according to the company's website. The franchise’s Pekin location has already opened, according to Spirit Halloween officials.

Stores will be housed in various empty spaces, including a couple of former Bed, Bath & Beyond stores, Carson’s Department stores, hhgregg stores and other businesses that have gone out previously.

Along with the early jump on costume sales, the chain of seasonal Halloween stores that open each year provides an array of popular costumes. This year, costumes from the hit "Barbie" movie are being featured on the business's website, in addition to a collection of more traditional Halloween characters and themes.
