Joann Fabrics To Close 36 Remaining Locations In Illinois: See List
While Joann Fabrics previously announced some locations would close, other Illinois locations are now on the chopping block.

ILLINOIS — After Joann Fabrics and Crafts announced a large share of its locations would close, the retailer is now shuttering all remaining locations nationwide, including those in Illinois.
The Hudson, Ohio-based company announced last month it was undergoing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring process. The winning bidders plan to wind down Joann operations in a sales and auction process and conduct going-out-of-business sales at all store locations, according to a Feb. 23 announcement from the retailer. That includes the 36 remaining stores in Illinois.
Prior to the weekend announcement, the company had hoped to keep a fraction of its stores open,
including 26 of its 36 remaining stores in Illinois. In addition to last month's Chapter 11 filing, Joann also filed for bankruptcy in March 2024 but emerged a month later as a private company and managed to keep its stores open.

In the Feb. 23 announcement, Joann announced that its leadership, board, advisors and legal team "made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business."
"We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders," the announcement continued. "We deeply appreciate our dedicated Team Members, our customers and communities across the nation for their unwavering support for more than 80 years."

Sales at Joann had slumped after a jump during the pandemic when Americans were isolated in their homes and spent more money on sewing and craft supplies. Due to the subsequent inflation, many people had to cut back on their discretionary spending.
It's unclear how low prices will drop on Joann merchandise, such as fabric, sewing accessories, and arts and crafts offerings. The company is currently promoting steep product discounts through its e-commerce site.
According to the Joann's restructuring website, going-out-of-business sales would begin immediately following court approval. Final sales could take several weeks to complete. Gift cards
will only be accepted as payment through Feb. 28, and returns are no longer being accepted.
Before the recent bankruptcy announcement, Joann had more than 800 stores operating across 49 states, as well as its e-commerce business.
