ILLINOIS — Nearly three years after a shooter opened fire during a July 4 celebration, killing seven people and wounding dozens more, the man accused in the killings is set to stand trial this week.

Plus, Good Samaritans are being hailed for courageously rescuing a child who fell through the ice into a pond, and a former Chicago sports start is battling cancer.

A suburban man faces 21 counts of first-degree murder in the shooting, which left seven people dead and dozens more wounded, including a then-8-year-old boy who was paralyzed in the shooting.

One driver was dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital with significant injuries, according to police.

Both homes were occupied at the time of the shooting, and officers found spent shell casings outside.

Pedestrian Hit By Multiple Vehicles, Killed In Crash

A male pedestrian, who was killed in the incident, appears to have been hit by several vehicles, police said. Police are not investigating the collision as a hit-and-run, and those involved in the collision "are still on the scene and cooperating with the investigation," police said Monday morning.

An infant was also injured in the two-vehicle crash, police said.
