Stormy Weekend, Severe Weather Possible Sunday For Chicago Area

Temperatures will be in the 70s all weekend, but stay aware for severe weather on Sunday.

ILLINOIS — Warm temperatures on Friday will bring an elevated fire danger during the afternoon, especially for areas south of Interstate 80, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service is also monitoring a possible severe weather threat for Sunday.

The high for Friday is 79 degrees, and breezy conditions, as well as storm chances, will continue through the weekend.

According to the weather service, there is a chance of storms Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. Some of these storms could produce nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.

Confidence is low for coverage and timing for storms on Saturday, and the weather service said, "there will likely be many dry hours."


However, severe storms are possible across the entire Chicago area on Sunday ahead of a strong cold front. The weather service said that "all modes" of severe weather are possible, including large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.

The weekend will feature mild temperatures, with a high of 70 on Saturday and a high of 72 on Sunday.

The weather service said the timing of the severe weather on Sunday is still uncertain. Morning showers and storms could also influence any severe weather.
