Mother's Day Warm-Up, Sun On Tap For Weekend: Illinois Weather

Temperatures could push 70 degrees on Sunday as the rain and clouds move out and as a warmer stretch that could see temps near 90 move in.

CHICAGO — After a dreary stretch of weather that has lasted more than a month, some sunny days and warmer weather finally appear to be on the horizon.

Just in time for Mother’s Day.

The National Weather Service is predicting that the clouds and rain that have stuck around for much of this week will move out overnight on Friday and be replaced by sun and pleasant spring weather.

Temperatures are expected to reach into the upper 60s by Sunday, when families may be out and about celebrating Mom. Mild air is expected to move into the region on Saturday, when forecasters are predicting that temperatures could reach the mid-60s before dropping into the mid-40s overnight.

Sunday will bring more sunshine and even warmer air as a major warm-up is moving into the region for next week, the National Weather Service said. While things will remain a bit cooler in Chicago near the Lake Michigan shore, temperatures around the region could push 70 degrees on Sunday before even warmer air moves into the area to start the week.

Forecasters are predicting the area could reach the low 80s by Monday and could near 90 degrees on Tuesday as spring finally shows its face after an extended stretch of dreary weather.
