Heat Wave Continues Into Third Day For Chicago Area
Peak heat indices are expected to be over 100 degrees on Monday.
ILLINOIS — "Oppressive heat and humidity" is expected Monday as the multi-day heat wave continues for the Chicago area, the National Weather Service said.
Peak heat indices are expected to be over 100 degrees in the afternoon in places like Midway, O'Hare, Aurora, DeKalb, Dixon, Joliet, Kankakee, Ottawa, Rockford and Woodstock.
The heat advisory and extreme heat warning will still continue through Monday and remains in effect until midnight for the Chicago area.

"Chances for storms return to the area as early as Monday evening, but more likely from Tuesday onward," the weather service said on its Facebook. "Local relief from the heat also arrives Tuesday along the lakeshore and near the Wisconsin state line, though toasty conditions will continue for other parts of our area."

Continued warm and humid conditions are expected the rest of the week, with on-and-off thunderstorms, according to the current forecast.

Storms could be strong to locally severe, but plenty of dry hours are expected in between rounds of storms, the weather service said.
Here is a look at the daily forecast, per the weather service:
MONDAY: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 101. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
MONDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
TUESDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 99. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Northeast wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
WEDNESDAY: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71.
THURSDAY: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.
THURSDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
FRIDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69.
