Rounds Of Storms Possible: Here's When Severe Weather Could Hit Illinois

Several dayss of storm chances will kick off in the Chicago area. Here's when to expect storms.

ILLINOIS — Several rounds of storms are possible starting Thursday through Saturday, with the possibility of some severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will have a high of 87, and the highest chance of storms is mainly in the afternoon for northwest of Interstate 55, the weather service said. A few rounds of storms are possible Thursday afternoon and overnight; a few storms could be severe near the Wisconsin state line.

Friday will have a high of 92 and Saturday a high of 89 degrees. Storms are possible throughout both days, but there will be many dry hours.

"The best chance for showers and thunderstorms for the entire area currently looks to be on Saturday," the weather service said on its Facebook.

Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and flash flooding.

The weather service said there is still uncertainty over the time windows and locations for these storms.

There is an elevated thunderstorm risk on Friday and Saturday, with a level 2 of 5 severe thunderstorm risk, according to the weather service.

Here is a look at the daily forecast, per the weather service:

THURSDAY: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. East northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

THURSDAY NIGHT: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 5 mph becoming south after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.

FRIDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 97. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 5 to 10 mph.

SATURDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

SUNDAY: A slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.
