Severe Weather Possible In IL As Temps Hit 80: Here's When It Could Hit

Isolated to widely scattered storms are possible. Here's when they could start.

ILLINOIS — Warm temperatures will kick off the work week, as well as a chance for a severe thunderstorm threat on Monday night into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The high for Monday is 83 degrees, and it will be gusty with winds up to 45 mph expected area-wide.

Isolated to widely scattered storms are possible from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

"However, confidence in storm development and coverage remains low," the weather service said on its Facebook. "If storms form, they may become severe, especially across northwest Illinois toward the Rockford area."

The chances for storms Monday into Tuesday is the first round of storms expected this week, the weather service said. The next chance for rain comes on Wednesday, and there is also a chance of storms on Thursday.

Temperatures will be near or above 70 degrees all week.

Tuesday will have a high of 79, Wednesday a high of 68, Thursday a high of 72 and Friday a high of 66 degrees.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Breezy, with a south southwest wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Tuesday: A slight chance of thunderstorms before 7am. Partly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 70 by 9am, then falling to around 62 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 45. North northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. East northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Wednesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. High near 67. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Friday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 60.
