Rain mixed with snow could continue through the afternoon in parts of the Chicago area, with periods of wintry weather continuing Thursday.

A rain/snow mix is expected to continue through afternoon. The highest potential for slushy snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is north of I-80 and west of the Fox River, with no more than a slushy coating on grassy areas expected elsewhere, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday brings a high of 35 to 39 degrees, with temperatures as low as a below-freezing 31 degrees Wednesday night.
