Near-90 Degrees, Summer-Like Temps Move In For Work Week: IL Weather

Spring gives way to warmer air and higher humidity over the next few days, which includes plenty of sunshine with a slight chance of storms.

CHICAGO — After a month-long stretch in which peeks at the sun came at a premium, things are about to heat up this week with summer-like weather that is sure to put the recent dreary weather in the rearview mirror.

Temperatures this week will hang around the 80s and, with humidity factored in, could feel like the 90s, the National Weather Service is predicting. The stretch of warm weather is expected to last into next weekend when conditions will cool off and return spring to the greater Chicago area, forecasters predict.

The warmer air will kick up some chances for rain and possible thunderstorms, but the chances of precipitation will be much less prevalent than in recent weeks. The pleasant conditions will begin Monday when temperatures will reach near 80 degrees and that will bring some breezy conditions into the area with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph in some instances, the weather service said.

The real warm-up kicks in on Tuesday when temperatures will reach 88 for most areas, which will bring a slight chance of rain and storms into the region Tuesday evening into the overnight hours.

Wednesday will bring a high of 81, forecasters said, before things warm back up near 90 for Thursday with humid conditions before things drop into the upper 70s for Friday.
