Tornadoes, Damaging Winds, Hail Possible: Severe Storm Watch For IL

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for all of northern Illinois, until 1 p.m. Friday.

ILLINOIS — Severe storms on Friday could bring damaging winds up to 75 mph, ping-pong ball sized hail and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for all of northern Illinois, until 1 p.m. Friday. Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, La Salle, McHenry and Will counties are all under the watch.

The weather service said there are several periods of storms expected Friday, with the most likely period in the mid-afternoon through early evening.

Some of these storms could be severe, with damaging wind, hail and tornadoes all possible.

"Please stay up-to-date with the forecast today, especially if you have outdoor plans, and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings," the weather service advised.
