USPS, FedEx, UPS Announce Holiday Gift Shipping Deadlines

Holiday shoppers hoping to have gifts arrive on time will need to get packages shipped as early as Dec. 13 to reach their destinations.

ILLINOIS — The holidays may be almost two months away, but for those Illinois residents who like to plan ahead when it comes to allowing gifts plenty of time to reach their destination, the clock has started ticking.

The United States Postal Service, FedEx, and UPS recently announced deadlines for residents to get their packages into the mail in order to arrive by Christmas Day.

FedEx ground shipping has the earliest deadline of all of the major carriers, stating recently that those shipping gifts through their company’s ground service needed to have packages into their hands by Dec. 13.

UPS lists Dec. 15 as the last day for ground delivery across the United States and Canada. For international deliveries and other air shipments, packages must be shipped by Dec. 21, according to the postal service’s website.

FedEx has domestic delivery options as late as Dec. 22, for same-day delivery, but suggests shipping packages by Dec. 15 for five-day ground shipments, according to its website.

The Postal Service lists Dec. 16 as the deadline for ground shipping and first-class mail within the U.S. International shipments may vary based on destination.

The Postal Service also announced it will not hike its prices with a high-demand surcharge this year, which may come as an early holiday gift for many residents choosing to ship gifts ahead of the holiday season.
