ILLINOIS — The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm will hit the Chicago area into early next week, but the system's exact track was still unclear on Friday.

Snow is expected Sunday into Monday, with the highest amounts of accumulation expected south of Interstate 80, across central Illinois and Indiana.

"A winter storm will bring accumulating snow and travel impacts to the region early next week," the NWS wrote Friday morning on X. "We will continue to refine the forecast track as it approaches, including the placement of the northern edge of the snow and any additional lake effect potential."
