CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Area residents are stepping up to help 23 families displaced by an apartment fire in Carpentersville over the weekend.
The blaze broke out at Meadowdale Apartments during the early morning hours of Saturday, according to fire officials in Carpentersville. When fire crews arrived, the blaze had already extended from the first floor to the roof of the building at 104 Meadowdale Court in Carpentersville.
In total, 23 families were displaced by the fire, Carpentersville Village President John Skillman said in a Facebook post. One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene of the blaze but did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Over the weekend, the village of Carpentersville set up a temporary shelter for those displaced by the blaze at the village's public works building.
The public works building, at 1075 Tamarac Drive, has also served as a spot for those displaced to pick up food, clothing, toiletries, blankets and essential supplies, according to village officials.
As of Sunday, and following an outpouring of support and donations, village officials said no additional donations were needed. The village provided the following details on how anyone who still wanted to help can do so.
In addition, the American Red Cross will hold an intake meeting from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the public works building, which is meant to provide information to those impacted by the fire.
"Registration with the Red Cross is required in order to receive ongoing and long-term financial assistance, including support for housing and recovery needs," according to the village's Facebook post. "If you or someone you know was affected, please help us share this information so every family receives the resources available to them."
