Duo Busted With 120K Fentanyl Pills Marked As Oxycodone: Police

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A man and woman from Arizona have been arrested after police in McHenry County busted then with 120,000 fentanyl pills, police said.
Gloria Gastelum, 54, and German Vargas, 22, both of Tuscon, Arizona, were taken into custody near Marengo last week after authorities learned a large quantity of narcotics would be entering the area on Aug. 8, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's office deputies identified Gastelum and Vargas as the suspects and pulled them over near West Grant Highway and Ford Street in Marengo on Friday, according to the news release. The 120,000 fentanyl pills police found were marked as oxycodone, according to authorities.

Police took Gastelum and Vargas into custody. They have both been charged with manufacturing and delivering 900 grams or more of fentanyl, which is a Class X felony; and possession of 200 grams or more of fentanyl, which is a Class 1 felony.
Both have been ordered detained in the McHenry County jail as court proceedings move forward in the case. Gastelum is next expected in court on Tuesday where a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing, according to online court records.
