Elderly Passenger Killed, Driver Injured In Fatal Marengo Crash
An 83-year-old Garden Prairie man has died and a 75-year-old Garden Prairie man sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash.
MARENGO, IL—An 83-year-old Garden Prairie man has died and a 75-year-old Garden Prairie man sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon on River Road at Thorne Road in Marengo, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
On Sept. 17 at 2:18 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Township Fire/Rescue District responded to the crash, which involved a 2007 Hummer H3 and a 2000 Dodge Dakota at the intersection of Thorne Road and River Road in unincorporated Marengo, deputies said.
Deputies said a 75-year-old Garden Prairie man was driving eastbound in his Dodge vehicle on River Road approaching Thorne Road as the driver of a Hummer traveled northbound on Thorne Road, ultimately turning westbound onto River Road before coming to stop sign.

Deputies said, for unknown reasons the driver of the Hummer, a 22-year-old Capron man, failed to yield to the Dodge and pulled out in front it causing a collision between the two vehicles. After the collision, the Dodge overturned into the north ditch.
The passenger of the Dodge, an 83-year-old Garden Prairie man, was pronounced deceased on
scene, deputies said. The 75-year-old man driver of the Dodge was flown by Lifenet helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford. The driver of the Hummer did not sustain any injuries.

According to deputies, the investigation into the accident continues by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
