Lake In The Hills Will Enact Grocery Sales Tax
The village board unanimously approved keeping the tax during a meeting on Aug. 28.
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake in the Hills Village Board has joined a growing number of communities that are opting to keep a 1% grocery sales tax when the state drops the tax at the end of the year.
Shaw Local News Network is reporting the village board unanimously approved keeping the taxduring a meeting on Aug. 28.
The state has opted to get rid of the grocery sales tax but has given local municipalities the option to vote to enact their own tax, which would take effect on Jan. 1, 2026. The towns have until October to opt in and hundreds have chosen to do so already, according to media reports.
