A winter storm is expected to bring blizzard-like conditions Friday to the Chicago area.
ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Winter storm expected to bring blizzard-like conditions Friday to the Chicago area has lead to some schools, libraries and businesses closing for the day.
Here is a look at some of the Algonquin and Lake in the Hills area closures as of 4:30 a.m.:
- Community Unit School District 300 schools: Closed Friday
- Algonquin Area Public Library

A winter storm warning took effect at 3 a.m. Friday in McHenry County and remain in effect through noon Saturday. Heavy snow, strong winds and dangerous travel conditions are expected during the winter storm.
In addition to total snow accumulation surpassing 8 inches of snow, wind gusts of up to 45 mph are in the forecast. Weather officials have said the winter storm will make travel very difficult to impossible and areas where there is blowing snow, visibility could be significantly reduced.
